How to make my grey hair glam

Anonymous
I finally went natural and stopped dying my hair. I'm on the young side and pretty grey (salt and pepper with a lot of salt).

Does anyone have advice on...
* adjusting makeup to look good with grey hair (any good makeup consultants in DC area?)
* adjusting my wardrobe to look good with grey hair?
* caring for my grey hair...I hear of some people getting "gloss"...what the heck is that? Is there anything I might want to consider doing differently?
* haircuts that look good for thick grey hair?
* hair salons that love to serve women with grey hair, preferably not too far from Silver Spring/Rockville.

Thanks!

I flirted with going gray when I turned 40, after 12 years of coloring. I'm about 80%l gray. But I'm not ready yet. I'm pale and thought I looked too washed out. I would have to get serious with my make up and jewelry, which I should probably do anyway. I came across this website when I was researching it. I didn't buy the book but if I was going to go gray, I would. http://goinggraylookinggreat.com/

I think a pixie haircut looks great on gray hair. And yes, gloss makes the gray shine.

I color. But from what I understand, grey hair can be vulnerable to having a yellowish tinge. Two generations ago women used blue hair dye to combat the yellow - you don't want to do that, but I think there are some rinses that can bring out the silver tones.

Brava for you! Though I don't think I could pull it off, some women can make it look very sexy and chic. If you can wear your hair short -- i.e., you've got the right face shape and a slender, longish neck -- try a pixie with a little attitude. Play up your eyes -- but be sure to keep it subtle -- and find a nice soft red lipstick that works with your skin tone and shade of grey (there are more than 50, I bet). Maybe try Laura Mercier's Audrey lip color. You'll need dangly earrings. Alternatively, a shortish and very sleek bob can also look beautiful on a woman with silver-y hair. Take a look at the Bobbi Brown books -- I think they include some photos of very beautiful women with grey hair. You've got the right attitude, OP, aim for glam, rather than seeing this as a concession to age -- and think of what you can do with all the time you'll save at the hair salon -- maybe take up skydiving like the Queen?

I have hair that sounds like yours - dark brown, almost black originally now with big streaks of grey - maybe 50%, but most on top. Anyway, I am so not glam, so you don't want to go by me. Mine is long and a little wild, so I sometimes feel like one of those women of a certain age who wear big bead necklaces, ethnic skirts, and a long ponytail. But. People tell me all the time that my hair is fantastic, and it is the most striking thing about me, so there is something to be said for it. Do watch out for the yellowing. My white streaks tend to yellow when I am in the pool a lot. I am not sure what one can do about it, but if anyone knows...please share.

Your posting is great. I'm in my late 40s with some grey. It's very refreshing to hear about someone with natural, grey hair. I'm sure you can rock it and make it glam!
