Mini schnauzers. Spunky and funny little dogs that were able to keep up with my boys.

Get a poodle. There is a reason why there are so many poodle mixes. That's because poodles are awesome dogs. They don't shed and are super smart and loyal.

I adopted a toy poodle about a year ago. Despite a history of trauma, she is doing amazing. Sweet, smart, loyal, and chill. Couldn't ask for a better dog.

Don’t get a doodle. Every doodle I’ve ever met has been neurotic.

Cavalier King Charles spaniels are amazing.... They are laid back but love to be with their people and enjoy walks..... They do not need to be rigorously exerciseed and ours barely sheds if you brush them.

They are very smart dogs and so laid back and chill..... Hours only barks if he wants to play... Even then it's like one bark saying hey you want to play with me?.

Really sweet dog. Dumb as rocks and totally food motivated, but the most lovable animal on the planet!

I have a cocker spaniel hybrid (50% cocker spaniel), and while I love her to death and she's a fabulous dog, cocker spaniels are a really sad case of being overbred to the point of damaging their gene pool. Lots are really sensitive and snappy, plus have physical health problems. Many also shed like crazy, though not all. A good cocker spaniel is almost the perfect dog, but so many just aren't anymore.

Yeah I wouldn't get a cocker spaniel. Everyone I have known who has one has had major health problems.... Several head anxiety disorders in one you cannot even touch or it will bite you or pee on the floor.....
SPANIELS in general are nice though. Have you thought of a king Charles or a Britney spaniel?

Couldn't disagree more. I have a terrier mix (she looks kind of like this) and she meets all of OP's requirements.

Britney spaniels have pretty short hair

I have a standard poodle. When I say i have never found dog hair anywhere, I mean that 100%. The only time there is dog hair is when I brush him out, and it's on the brush. And it is very minimal even then. My ex (who has severe allergy issues) is not affected by my dog (he comes over to get the kids and sometimes just to visit them). Poodles are extremely smart and easy to train. They are great with people and kids. I highly recommend. As a first-time dog owner, Ive found it very easy to have a poodle. The only con I can think of is that you need to stay on top of their grooming which can be expensive. In between grooms, they need to be combed/brushed several times a week.

People frown on poodles because they are "ugly," but mine is so cute. I hate all of the traditional poodle cuts, so I keep him in a puppy cut, and I get stopped regularly by people telling me how cute he is.

This is a random picture of two poodles I found on Google. Mine looks exactly like the brown one.
