I thought J would survive with Pope letting him go but thought Pope would force J to split of the money.

Was hoping they would show Deran with his former BF living happily.

I don't know...I think the time jumps were purposeful. The whole show is pretty much based on trauma from Smurf and what she did to them. Pope obviously suffered from mental illness along with years of his mother's abuse. The flashbacks showed this pretty well. They were all pawns and victims in Smurf's game of life.
