Chalamet ballet thing

I think he's getting the right amount of pushback for a pretty dumb comment from someone who is more than a little connected to the ballet and opera industries. He's getting dunked on in twitter, TT, socials. He's not getting canceled or banned from industry.

It obviously didn't cost him any Oscar or award, and he seemed to take the dig in stride at the awards ceremony. People will move on, and if he has any self-awareness at all (which i think he does), he will think twice about dismissing these artistries in the future.

He is a talented actor who gets amazing roles and gets these crazy opportunities to work with great directors. It gives the impression he's a deep and sensitive person because how does he play these roles otherwise? But he's not. He's shallow, doesn't particularly care about the arts, full of himself, etc.

It's not really just the one comment, it's his whole vibe, but it's like the one comment finally allowed people to admit to themselves they don't like him and think he's a f**k boi.

Most Hollywood actors are, so this is not a huge surprise, but people just thought he was different because of the caliber of roles he's played. They thought he was a Michael B. Jordan, he's actually a young Zach Braff but just a better, more versatile actor.

This is perfect (and brutal)

+2

The guy is annoying but saying he doesn't care about the arts or is a "f**k boi" is just dumb and wrong. He literally grew up in Mitchell Lama performing arts housing and he's been dating the same woman for years. It'd be better to just say "I don't like the guy, he's arrogant and annoying" without making up reasons!

Yet most people agree with him. If you suggested people on here dress up and go to the opera and ballet you'd be laughed out for being such an out of touch boomer.

But no one is demanding everyone go to the ballet or opera. I think most people fall into two camps: (1) don't care about ballet/opera, don't go, don't think about it, and (2) passionately love them.

Chalamet took the secret third option of vocally hating on them and comparing them negatively to movies. It was weird because no one asked him what is opinion was on other art forms, he just randomly singled them out to shit on them.

It would be like if you asked a colleague how their day was going and they replied, "Better than Mark in accounting, that guy is irrelevant and no one likes him." WTF.

This made me lol. Accurate!

And he's right - ballet and classical music struggle to find audiences these days. I know, a close friend of my son is a ballet trainee, and I love opera and classical music.

This is not why he didn't win an Oscar. Sinners and OBAA were just too on point for this year. It happens.

The majority of movies struggle to find audiences these days and break even. Imagine someone saying that about film because tik tok gets more views. He sounded like an idiot.

He’s 30. At what point do you think the expectations for him should rise? Perhaps he should focus on ICE, Iran, women’s rights…?

His choice of partner is problematic and indicative of a lack of taste, depth and values. So, I'm not surprised.

And of course the understanding that what performers do in ballet and opera is only 100 million times harder and more impressive than anything he can do.

Yes, all of this. It was also a completely gratuitous comment. Had he stuck with a discussion focused on cinema — and stayed more in his own professional lane, he wouldn’t have earned such negative attention. As it is, we get to make comparisons between Chalamet with his accomplishments and ego, and multi-talented, accomplished professionals like Tom Holland.

I think that's a sexist and weird thing to say. She was born into that family and had zero choice in terms of fame, has kids, a job, and has had two long term partners including Chalamet and mostly stays out of the public eye. Most ladies on the red carpet have had as much work done if not more. Leonardo Di Caprio is a much trashier person.

I like him in many of his roles. I think he’s a good actor. He’s just not a very likable person.

The recent "girlfriend" he was with before Jenner was also a teen mom adult entertainment performer with the huge fake tatas and Insta face. It's a choice. On the one hand, whatever maybe they are lovely people, but it does come across as very base and out of line with the persona he seems to want to project otherwise.

He just said what most people are thinking.

The way Kylie is hated for simply existing is horrible. As a girlfriend, she has kept herself incredibly low-key. However, people will go crazy if she does the most basic thing, like accompany him to an awards show. Gross.

The way he brought this on himself is really too bad. I don't think he would have won in any case, but if he had just campaigned differently, I think he would have maintained and earned even more industry goodwill. But he's probably too stupid to see that, so he got what he deserved.

Goes to show the stupidity of social media and frankly most people online: ultra sensitive about some things, while gleefully slut shaming a monogamous mom of two with a discreet love life just for having fake boobs and lips.

People made an assumption about him due to the image he projects. Just because you have curly hair, a French name, and show up in artsy films does not mean that you are deep or intellectual individual, people just assumed he was. He probably is kind of just bro-y which is fine but I think people had a different concept of him.
