Early release Monday?

There will be no ability to get your kids after it passes because the streets will be closed. Obviously, schools must at least close early and the office doesn’t need parents randomly getting kids.

I really want it to swing completely around us. My school seems to be made out of papier mache and hope. We have damage from the end of January storm. In addition, the building is just falling apart. On one of the 80 deg days last week, I tried to open a classroom window and it came out of the frame on one side. Almost hit a student sitting nearby. I jammed my forefinger catching it. A derecho would probably destroy the entire second floor.

Paper mache and hope is good, lol!!!
Mine is held together out of spite and with significant help from the cockroaches and mice that really own the place.
Honestly thought an early dismissal seemed unlikely but the more I hear the word derecho the more I think it is a possibility. The latest schools (tier 2 elementaries) would dismiss just after 1:00 so forecasters would have to feel very confident that the storm is not coming until after 2/2:30. We do not want kids on buses in this situation.

The timing of ES release, even with early dismissals is going to make this a really tough call.

Smartest move - Move Monday to the professional day and make Friday a normal day.

Yep. Either that or close schools tomorrow.

There is a zero chance this will happen. Union would have to approve. Union would like both days off. And last day of marking period is Thursday so teachers ned Friday to finish grading.

Which marking period ends on Thursday? I know at the school I teach at our MP3 doesn’t end until mid April.

Stop spreading nonsense

They’re not going to revert Friday because they already tried that and the Muslim community went nuts because it’s their holiday (Eid). So instead all kids get to miss out. That’s what we get from equity — if it creates a disadvantage for even a small group, everyone misses out.

I’m making plans now to pick my kid up instead of having them take the bus. Not that I really want to drive in whatever this storm will be but what will be will be….

2013 one of my kids schools held busses. The other sent the kids on their way (2 different ESs). The bus that went out was directed to divert to the nearest school really after the weather past. Both kids were about 90 mins late. The kid that was on the bus says kids were pretty scared but no one was hurt.

+1. Friday is a professional development day, not a grading day.

You are obnoxious now. Every single rain event, every single "is it going to snow event?" Why don't you have a life or something else to focus on?

School will proceed as usual tomorrow Monday.

However, some after school activities might be canceled.

Keep your eye on the forecast for that late afternoon period.

No way will they cancel school tomorrow. Possible early release, but I don’t think they will decide that h til the morning when they have more confidence in the forecast.

Deal with your anxiety and stop worrying about the schools.

Pretty sure she just doesn't want to work.

DP. The OP said she wanted to get out of an after-school meeting. Not that she doesn’t want to work. Teachers know that meetings keep us from our work.

Okay. Go look up the forecasts. There is no way you actually live on Central MD. The warnings are no joke.
