Bringing own nail polish to the salon

Yes. They don’t have my favorite color there.

OPI: "Baby, Take a Vow" (cooler pink)
Essie: "Sugar Daddy" (warmer pink)

I bring my own polish, nail file and clipper.
My nail tech doesn’t care.

I like bubble bath

+1
A pretty universally flattering color.

Oh wow….
I didn’t realize that nail salons water down their nail polishes….💅🏼

It’s real. The techs are the ones who do it.

This. They add something to thin the polish so that it dries faster and they can do two coats quickly.

Are they just adding some clear polish then? Because water would make painting nails and drying nails ridicuolously messy

No they add thinner

If the salon is out of a popular color I like, I ask them to get a new bottle from the back and they do it promptly and it looks perfectly new and full when they bring it out, so I doubt my salon does this (or else I’m a sucker, which may be 😊). I go to Nail Saloon, fwiw.

Also, wouldn’t the color then be diluted (and in an inconsistent way) if polish was being thinned out? I just don’t buy this.

Have seen them do it right in front of me.
I don’t think it’s water. It’s some kind of clear chemical. lol not h20!

I feel like they buy vats of “extender” chemical that they pour into smaller bottles, and then they mix it in when the color gets down to 50% - so it’s always full.

It effectively waters it down but keeps it as sticky nail polish

Yes, I bring my own OPI and it's shiner and longer lasting. Plus I can do a touch-up. They thin down their own polish and unfortunately most look old and separated. I go to a high end saloon too.

I don’t think the polish at my salon is inferior in any way. That said, there have been times that they don’t have the color I want (even if they had it on prior visits) so I have thought about just buying my favorite bottle or two just in case.
