NP- you don't need the details from pp. There is only one meaningful way basketball coaches are "nuts", way too intense, screaming at kids, screaming at refs, getting thrown out of games, running terrible practices, not showing up, etc.
FWIW, every coach I have seen mentioned on here as "nuts" who I later saw coach in real life? I agreed with the label. |

They could mean a lot of things when they used the term. I’m a new commenter and I want to know what is meant, I was actually considering taking my kid to a tryout and would like to make a more informed decision. |

They have two coaches: BP and QS. Don't take an offer to play for a team coached by QS. He coached CYA travel and was awful.

CYA isn’t a good basketball organization. You may luck up and get on a decent team but chances of that aren’t good. I wouldn’t judge a coach by how well he did at CYA. It’s just not fair if that’s what you have to work with. |

| The 10th grade will have a decent coach. Young guy with no kid on the team and has been around basketball most of his life |

Our PPA Premier hoops coach is actually quite cool, calm and collected. He got a little fired up on a few bad calls last tourney, but he is a breath of fresh air compared to all the yelling dads. |

I've seen enough basketball coaches now and from what I've seen if you as a coach are not upset/disappointed with your players when they are performing poorly, it usually means one of the following: 1. The talent doesn't exist on the team - so what is there to get upset about, OR 2. You are coaching for the wrong reasons (only looking out for your own players' son/daughters development and not overall team success), OR 3. The coach doesn't want to "piss off" a star player by educating them about player mistakes (the star player should seek out feedback) I'm sure there are other reasons but these came to mind immediately.. |

I'm noting what I've observed in the 15 years now of going through multiple teams and coaches for all my kids. Watching March Madness now ... would love to see actual examples of D1 coaches that you describe. If you're only focusing on REC/HOUSE, then we're not in the same league. You can have the soft-spoken coaches
