Least scammy moving company for local move

Anonymous
I’ve had excellent experiences with Moyer and Sons. My last move (2 months ago) was local. They said for local moves they charge hourly and said it would be about 2200. When they arrived I had them move a few more things that weren’t in the original estimate. The workers were so fast and hardworking that they finished hours early and it only cost me 1600, even with the extra items.

I had a good experience with Helix movers - they shipped and stored our stuff with zero missing or broken items.

We’ve moved twice with Town & Country Movers and had no issues.

On the other hand, I filled out an online estimate form with 495 Movers and they would not stop calling me.

Prince Movers run by Jon Prince.

I would hire them again. They can do small or large jobs, which worked great for clearing out an older person's home.

I also haven't had the best experiences, nor have a few others that I know; I think they have alerts for themselves on here and Reddit. They looooooove to yap and increase their charges based on that (bc the clock keeps running while they're being "so friendly" and chatting with you). Scheduling with them is also a pain bc they're "soooo busy" whenever I've called; I'd always have to work around them by a matter of weeks if I wanted to move, when other companies were able to get you in based on your schedule.

Have also only heard horror stories about 2 Marines.

We used College Hunks hauling Junk to move my mother's stuff into assisted living and they were awesome. It was a very local move and we paid by the hour. They packed and cleaned up and were SO nice to all of the old ladies at the nursing home -- who may or may not have been ogling them. It was like an episode of The Golden Girls.

I've used them twice and the first time they were ok but for our last big move involving several big trucks, they were exceptional. We only moved a few miles and had moved a lot ourselves but it still took 15 or 16 hours. They went out of their way to make everything easier for us and only took a short lunch break because of the amount we had to move.

I mean...we just hired some guys who were hanging out ourside of a Uhaul store in FFX. They did an amazing job!

Anytime Movers - between me and my husband we have used them about 6 times! They are so affordable, reliable, and nice!

Adding to the Bookstore Movers recommendations. They do a great job!

However, if they aren't available, we had a decent experience with JK Movers.

Please choose someone other than JK movers. The owner's purchase and sale of land for data centers in Loudoun county is gross and greedy imo. I would not give him my business or money.

Agreed, I’m suspicious of the hype around Bookstore Movers. Maybe they are indeed great in the actual work of moving, but trying to book them (pun unintended) is sub-par. Tried using them twice, both times they acted like they were too busy and as if they are the only movers in town.

Town and Country movers. Not cheap though but we used them to pack and move. Excellent.

We used bookstore movers when it was under the initial owner— excellent. We also used them after he passed and his wife took over I think — fine.

Yet another vote for Bookstore Movers.

FWIW, the first time we moved, we interviewed about five companies. Finally one guy told us that the same company owns multiple "brands" in the area. But Bookstore Movers isn't one of them.
