Some lose, some gain. I gained on bc so I assume I'd gain on HRT. Not chancing it, but fortunately my symptoms are mild so far. Trazodone has addressed most of it well enough.

I’m losing weight on HRT which I don’t want to do. Before menopause, I had a high metabolic rate and had to work hard to maintain weight. That rate was slowing down prior to HRT, my cheeks looked fuller and my face looked youthful. I think the HRT has reverted my metabolism to what it was and my face is looking gaunt and I’ve dropped two sizes. But it’s helped me with sleep and digestion and brain fog do I don’t want to give it up.

How old are you and what is your weight before and now?

53 now. HRT for 8 months. Pre menopause I struggled to maintain 128-130lb for my 5’10” height. Right before HRT I hit 135lb easily looked better and more proportional and had to pay attention so I don’t overeat. Now after 8 months I’m struggling to keep it at 125. Eating nutrient dense food every 2-3 hours to stop the slide, strength training etc.

Because despite what the internet says, HRT is not actually a magic fountain of youth and beauty.

And no, it’s not peri itself because my weight was normal before I started HRT, and I had issues with weight gain on BCP in my 20s (which caused me to stop it). But - my mood and sleep were so impacted that I was not functioning and I feel like I have to stay on it. My doctor has no answers other than to scold me for the weight gain and tell me to eat less than 1000 calories per day.

Don’t mean to scare anyone, and I know I am somewhat of an outlier in my reactions to hormones.

Interesting. Insomnia is one of my biggest chronic issues so it’s the one thing that could drive me to HRT if hot flashes start waking me up. But low dose Lexapro also works - but I don’t like the weigh gain! So it sounds like I may as well stick with Lexapro when the time comes.

Going from a 34c to a 36c is not breasts getting bigger. You gained weight and your torso got bigger, you cup size stayed the same.

If anything my breasts got smaller because I lost a little weight (5lbs) and that’s always been the first area where I see a change. I do think it has made my face look more youthful because when I see people I haven’t seen in awhile they comment on how young I look. My mother looks very young for her age although years in the sun finally caught up with her so some of my “youthful look” could be genetic. And honestly, some could be a result of sleeping through the night on a regular basis (thanks to the progesterone).

What are you taking and what doses and what is your weight? I need HRT!

What hormones and doses are you taking? I can’t afford to lose weight

Not just my breast, but my whole body. I have gained about 15lbs on HRT.

I was 128lbs before HRT. I haven't changed anything else and I do Intermittent Fasting.

mine are bigger too and my DH is very happy

My only peri symptom is weight gain - about 10 lbs - and was thinking of doing HRT to lose it but now I’m not sure. Do most people gain or lose?

What HRT are you referring to? IMHO, it's not progesterone that has a weight gain effect but estradiol. And it's likely that not all HRT is the same or has same effects. Not everyone reacts the same either. Hard to tell. It's likely though, that the effect of HRT will resemble the effect of BC pills you took earlier in life, if you took them.

I apparently tend to gain weight on estradiol and also have the same side effect OP describes.

Mine are slightly bigger, but not much noticeable. I found out that DH loves to play with them and they feel better whenever he sucks them.

HRT isn't magical. If you want to maintain or lose weight you have to eat right and exercise. It helps me sleep better and be less tired, which helps me work out and take better care of myself. If anyone loses weight on HRT that's probably why.
