Coastal Carolina, ECU, and UNC Wilmington

I have always thought C of C had a good reputation.

I have never thought ECU or Coastal had good reputations

If you are an A student at a good high school it would not seem like a wise move.

My son wanted to be on the coast and thought Charleston was it, then he toured uncW. He didn't like dodging all the tourists in Charleston and lines are blurred as to campus and town. UNCW is a beautiful, clean , modern with classic vibe school.

UNCW was used to be Brown in The Summer I turned Pretty)

C of C has always been better than Coastal, but behind South Carolina or Clemson. All still true.

UNC Wilmington for a better education.
ECU (known locally as Ez U) for the college football experience.
Costal Carolina is a distant third.

But, it really depends on which majors they are interested in.

Also looking in New England and Florida (California is too far) but our first stop is a trip to the Carolinas. I know College of Charleston has a strong program but the female ratio and lack of bigger sports is not as appealing to her. TIA!

I'm an NC native.

Also an MC native, and UNCW is tough to get into for Marine Bio and draws kids from across the country for that program specifically. For Marine Bio it is heads and tails above State.
Is NC State in Raleigh is too large? (The undergrad enrollment is around 29K.) They have a great Marine Sciences program. A friend (in the DMV) has a senior there. Last year, he did a semester in Morehead City, NC (which is on the coast if you are not aware) through NC State's CMAST program. They will be a more difficult admission compared to ECU, UNC-W and I assume Coastal.

UNC-W will be largely in-state students. It doesn't have huge sports. My friends from HS who went there really loved it.

ECU is pretty large, quite honestly. I'd really hesitate to send my kid there. It is a very high party scene.

I can't comment much on Coastal, other than it is near Myrtle Beach.

UNCW heads and tails above State in Marine Bio with a national applicant pool for that program specifically. I’m also from NC.

I read yesterday that Coastal Carolina has a 55% graduation rate. Eek.
