Blech. This reminds me why I never wear dresses anymore (though I want to). Those will all look terrible on most women.

And can we please retire that last look already? The 1940s house dress look is just sad. Gah, I hate shopping for clothes as a middle aged woman!

I'd wear the sweater dress, but sweaters are my thing.

I hope knee length dresses/skirts will come back, because they're much more figure flattering.

Please don't wear this dress! It's something my daughter would wear.

I think it is very cute and would wear it. Although maybe not in fall. The material looks more spring/summer?

Quince has a dress that is very similar that I have in 3 colors. I get tons of compliments when I wear them. Friends have purchased it after they saw mine. And we are all late 40s.

The dress is not for fall, tho laugh.

You don't wear boots with a short sleeve dress.

Yes you do and you can... an guess what you can wear them with shorts and to a vineyard.

What I am not understanding is that the poster is asking for a dress for fall when it is still in the 70s and 80s. florals are out. As are sweater dresses. So what are the options?

I like heals but you can wear flat ones.

Tan or brown

I'm almost 50 and like op's dress. I fear it would look frumpy on me with a big chest, but still better than those quince ones. And a tan heeled bootie might be cute. Cuter than these I think.

What about these styles? https://anindigoday.com/floral-mini-dress-styled-3-ways/

Don't like the belt with the first one but the booties look good to me. Dated or are they still good?

I think the booties are fine too.

This season taller boots are in though but I don’t think you always have to be in. I think you should wear what you feel comfortable wearing.

Summer weight fabrics in Autumn colors. Dark cotton and tropical wool.

Old navy has similar dresses to the OPs in fall colors. But over 50 is too old to wear that style of dress- I don’t care how thin or fit you think you look. Gap has knee length denim dresses you could wear with sneakers or flats but still is a bit young for your age. Try J Jill. Your young days are over and your face shows your age regardless of what you think.

I would also have to agree. You need a fabric with a nicer drape--usually a little more substantial, like a mostly wool blend ponte fabric. It has enough structure to drape smoothly over any "trouble areas" and it will be very comfortable too.
