House has two showers but no bathtub, I need one what will that cost?

Agree. We just replaced a tub 20 years ago and I think it was about $2k, including materials. The big question is whether the shower is big enough to fit a tub. If not, you're going to be moving walls and that will be a lot more.

Take 4-5 photos and email them to 3-4 contractors or plumbers and ask for a rough estimate.

$2K won't even get you the materials today.

10K would actually be quite low since you'll probably need to re-do the whole bathroom. I would budget for 20K.

Why would they have to do the whole bathroom?

DP but tubs only have one finished side. Three sides are usually unfinished. Unless OP has a very specific niche built already, a tub doesn’t usually fit in the floor space of a shower. Also any tile work is unlikely to transfer. New plumbing is required, even for same spaces. It adds up.

If you used an insert (premade thing) maybe it would be cheaper?

DP. That might be true but depends on the bathroom. We have a master bath with a shower stall that was built to accommodate a standard tub size, if we ever decided to replace the shower with a tub. We could do an installed but or a freestanding tub, it would require some new plumbing and retiling but no additional construction.

But even if OP's bathroom required something more extensive, like building out a pony wall or even moving existing plumbing, there's no reason to expect they'd have to re-tile the entire bathroom or change any other fixtures. For instance, in our bathroom, the toilet plumbing is in it's own closet on the opposite side of the bathroom, and there is already a pony wall between the vanity and the shower area, so it's unlikely we'd have to do anything to the rest of the bathroom.

I'm sure it would still cost well over 2-3k, but I don't see why it would cost 10-15k which can get you a new bathroom.
