Tackle Football

My DH has always said that football is the one sport you don't need to play for years in order to be successful. You just need to be a good athlete -"footwork and hands."

A current example is Mo Allie Cox - a local from Alexandria who plays in the NFL with the Indianpolis Colts. He's been with them since 2017. He was a basketball player in high school and college - a standout star at VCU and has some VCU basketball records. After graduating, he signed with the Colts and is a tight end. He had not played organized football since his freshman year in high school and he's now a professional football player.

So yeah, as long as you're athletic enough to set records as a D1 athlete then you don't really need any experience to be successful at football.

Boxing is on a whole other level of brain damage.

Aaron Hernandez would say otherwise. He had the brain of like a 70+ year old with advanced dementia, and he was under 30.

I wish there was a way to get flag football to replace tackle in the high schools. My son loves it, but we’ve told him no tackle. He says he’ll wait till he’s an adult, lol. Which I guess would be better. I know he won’t be playing in college, but I think he thinks will if he’s allowed to play tackle. It helps that the Mannings didn’t play tackle till high school.

He’s still young, but we have discussed the sub-concussive hits and what that does to brains.

Lol no.

I live in SOCAL in an expensive area and more kids participate in tackle football than flag football. Tackle isn't going anywhere.

This area is an aberration due to the high number of immigrants who love soccer. In most of the rest of the country tackle football is still king.

You might wanna keep up with social media. Tackle football is a dying sport, not only because it is far too slow, but no with brains wants their white matter turning into mashed potatoes.

Tackle football is by far the most participated HS male sport according to NFHS which regulates HS sports. The idea that it is dying comical. The largest event that 99% of all HS hold are home football games. The money brought in from football in almost the entire athletic budget at most places. Football isn’t going anywhere because without it HS sports can’t survive.

Try to keep up. Clearly you live in a 30 year old bubble. Most football gains are now coming from flag football, especially due to girls:

Flag football is dominating social media. It’s a sport that can be played coed, thereby doubling the commercial value of the future market. It is much faster, with far less delays. Anyone with a shred of intelligence is ditching tackle football because it is horrific for young, developing brains. Tackle football is a dying sport.

You’re an idiot. That’s because it’s no cut and they need. 100 fools to field a team

flag football is a good alternative for girls and kids whose parents wont let them play tackle but it will never overcome tackle.

the NFL has basically taken away most big tackles in games, its almost to the point, its no more dangerous than mens laxcrosse.

Agreed. And hockey. My kid plays high school football for one of the powerhouse Catholics - and there are very few head injuries or even “crushing”hits.
