Ridiculous.

I grew up LMC. We could not afford most of those vacations.

Sure, Myrtle and OBX aren’t luxurious and a family can swing a week at the beach at a reasonable price—particularly if you eat most meals at home. Ditto for hunkering down at a cabin in the Smokies.

But have you priced out tickets to Dollywood, Anakeesta, Ober Mountain, or any of the dozens of other attractions in the Smokies? It’s get pricey rather quickly.

Disney is obviously very, very expensive. Technically, I don’t think a truly LMC family can afford Disney…or NYC for that matter. Hotels and parking in NYC are quite costly and Broadway tix for a family of four are expensive. Add on meals and activities and I don’t see how any LMC family can afford it.

I’ve been to most of the places on the list. Nearly $400k HHI. We love the Caribbean as much as we love the Mediterranean and other beaches further afield. We love American cities as much as European cities. And we’ve had a blast at Disney, Dollywood, Hershey, etc.

FTR, Cozumel can be a lovely day as a cruise port. There are small and large beach clubs with different vibes.

And cruises can be affordable fun for families, but they can also be quite pricey. Depends on the ship, itinerary, etc. Imho they are the easiest and most relaxing vacations.

Same. I’ve done 8 of these trips. HHI is 400K.

I’ve also traveled to 6 continents, ( lived on 4 ) and stayed in multiple 5 star resorts across the globe.

People like OP are so funny, especially when they make comments like this in real life. A true revelation of character.

+1. It does come across as mean. Like ha ha, can you believe this anyone’s dream vacation? Those silly LMC people! What some people—including the author of the article-fail to mention; it’s not just about money, it’s time. Many people have no time off/paid time off.

That’s what makes them dream vacations.

My dream vacations are the Greek Isles and the Norwegian Fjords. The vacations in my budget are camping or a weekend in cramped condo with other relatives on the DelMarVa.

I’m embarrassed for you

They think LMC people can afford to fly to Portugal??

This conversation makes me glad that what other people think of my family’s travel choices has zero to do with where we go and how much we enjoy it.

lol, what an article.

A testament to why middle America hates privileged coastal elites.

I don’t think Avery could have nailed it any better even if she tried.

OP here.

I had to post that link because those places are soooo DCUM. I would never do any of them.

US has some of the best national parks in the world. You have to be an imbecile to think they can't be enjoyed by both rich and poor.

Why on earth not? You’d never visit a US national park or go to Portugal?

Glad to hear that you won’t go to any National Parks. Happy to not see you there.

LMC don’t dream of going to Portugal — that’s like dreaming of going to Mars. They don’t even get passports, that’s a pretty big expense just right there.

Do any of you know how much Disney actually costs? LMC can’t afford it anymore.

Sadly, I think people go into debt to go. Thankful we were a one and done on Disney.
