Orange juice - they have calcium fortified ones. |
As someone with a milk protein allergy (different than lactose intolerance), the quality truly does not matter. It’s still a milk product. Same for goat milk |

If she can explain what she likes about cheese and making it a safe food, it might be helpful to find the best substitutes. Is it the fattiness the flavor or the texture?
There is a period of adjustment. I still miss cheese years after becoming dairy free due to a health issue. She’ll prob struggle some. It gets better. If you’re local Moms organic market will have better options than Whole Foods. Larger Wegmans will as well. Read labels now, there is hidden dairy in so many things. |
9:54 here. Most cheeses are made from casein but ricotta is made from whey. We tried using ricotta for other cheeses for a while but DS didn't like it. It's something to consider. |
| Miyoko's brand is generally my go to and seems healthier and melts well. WF has a pretty good selection! |
| Also, Kite Hill cream cheese is decent. There's a brand that comes in navy blue packaging made with olive oil that's good for cheddar and for shredded cheese. There's cashew spreads too with herbs (it comes in green packaging and maybe called tree life?) that I find yummy. Primal Kitchen queso in a jar is actually yummy but I've been off dairy for over 5 years so maybe I'm not picky anymore! I drink Uncle Matt's OJ with calcium and vit D and take a supplement to get enough vit D and calcium. I love Culina yogurt and harmless harvest yogurt is not bad. Organic almond milk is my go-to milk substitute - and I actually love the taste now. Miyoko's butter is good, and it works well in recipes. So Delicious ice cream is yummy, especially the cashew milk kind. I really don't miss dairy at all now! |
| EZ Melts were recommended to us for calcium, but there are (nondairy) chocolate ones too. My dairy-free kid has refused both. I'm eating the chocolate ones instead and if you're in DC and want to try the EZ Melts, let me know, you can come grab them! |

I’m not sure if OP is still reading since this is old, but I barely eat dairy because it causes too many issues for me.
I drink a lot of almond milk, if she can have nuts. I put it in soaked oats daily and also make smoothies every day. |

My newly vegan kid likes the Trader Joe’s shredded parm best of all vegan cheese.
I like it too. Talked to another vegan about it and think it’s because the vegan shredded parm has nutritional yeast in it, which hits the savory taste buds in some way? Anyway it’s great for sprinkling on stuff! |
| Has she tried raw cow milk? It's legal in Virginia but not in Maryland. She can also get camel milk from California. They ship raw and pasteurized. The raw camel milk helped my kids a lot. |
