Open Container in Ocean City

3 years ago something similar (in a different location) happened to our kid. $3k total, $2k for the initial court appearance (community service) and follow up (proof of said community service) and $1k for expongement a year later.

Worth every penny, and yes, the kid paid that $3k (paid us back, no interest)

I’m not that poster or OP but take your judgement somewhere else and be hopeful you never have to deal with this. Some parents will always help their kids interest free if they can. My parents would right now if I needed them to.

Things are going to be okay, OP, if he learned from his mistake. Don’t listen to the negativity. But get your kid an attorney.

Yes, get a local attorney to take care of this. They will know the cops, the prosecutor and the judge. Make your son pay you back and make him be the one to stay on top of the case.

We’ve had to get local attorneys in different small towns (one MD and one VA) for different traffic violations over the years. It’s worked out well and worth the money.

I'm looking for more info on the court process, and if we really need to hire a lawyer to avoid it going on their record. Ideally, we're hoping for PBJ/community service, but I don't know how likely that is to be granted if we don't have a lawyer.

Not a big deal. It's one of the only traffic violations they cannot arrest you for, so it's at the bottom of fines. About like a parking ticket.

Nothing you can do to remove "records" of stuff like this. Some lawyers will take big money and say they got it expunged, but it's still there, just might not show up on public records as often is all, but LEO's GOV etc. will still be able to pull it up.

Was he driving with an open container? Or like an open container on the boardwalk?
