Sooo, after yesterday and today's storms, are we still thinking all this rain is normal? It certainly is not. And it is supposed to rain like this for the next ten days. Trees are falling nonstop.

The roads were so flooded on the beltway/270 about an hour ago that a firetruck sped by with an inflatable raft-- not kidding. There was a raft attached as if they were going to a scene with a river rescue.

I have not had to water the plants on my deck in weeks. One is so soiled that I suspect it may die soon from overwatering.

There have been water rescues at Tyson's, apparently. Maybe other parts of the area. Tornado in Anne Arundel.

Also, stupid question. Climate change makes for more extreme weather events. You get maybe the same amount of rain, but all at once. The rest of the time you're in drought conditions.

Last summer was abnormally dry. This one is abnormally wet. Climate change is affecting rainfall amounts throughout the world. In general warmer air holds more moisture, thus heavier rain and more flooding

Our climate is, generally speaking, going to become more like Florida and South Carolina. Though we'll still get the occasional polar vortex.

It's not normal, but it's not a complete historical anomaly or anything. I've lived here for over 3 decades and I can think of a few other years where June at least was terrible and there were floods in the area.

We had a drought last year. What happened the year before that?

The last time the pattern was like this (and I think it was worse then) was summer 2018. Summer 2017 was wet too. The last couple years have been abnormally dry, so this feels like a shock to the system.
