I wonder if soaking in salt water would draw it out enough to use a fine needle to get it out? A cm long is a big mark to have on the hand for life. Or see a dermatologist…
But especially for a boy, I wouldn’t worry too much about the scar. Things happen. |
| My sister still has the mark from probably 1983. |
| I have had the tip of a pencil in the palm of my hand for 40 plus years. Hasn't caused me any issues so far! |
| I had no idea pencil marks could stay forever! I've stabbed myself before accidentally but I guess the lead always came out... |
| Maybe try drawing salve. |
Same, I have one on my knee. I'm 57. |

Knee, 1980, girl walking back down the aisle of desks from the pencil sharpener accidentally bumped into me.
I've had that black mark so long, I didn't even notice it anymore. This post made me actually go and look for it, and it's gone! I had to check both knees to be sure I was remembering the correct one. So yeah, it did eventually go away, but it took 40+ years. No adverse effects, as far as I can tell. |
| I still have pencil mark in my skin 30 years later. Sorry, it’s there to stay and embedded. |
Yep. I have a pencil stab mark in the palm of my hand, 35 yrs later! But who cares? |
| Wow this is a fascinating thread and one of the many awesome things about DCUM. I am pretty old and my kids are HS/college but somehow I had no idea about pencil stabs. Until now, of course. Thank you OP and Jeff!! |
| I'm 48. I have it in my left arm from probably middle school. |
| According to a random Internet article, the appropriate way to remove a pencil stab induced graphite tattoo is like any other tattoo - with lasers. |
| I did that to my face when I was in elementary school. It disappeared over some time. |
Why would anyone clip living skin? Who would do this? I stabbed myself with a pencil in the palm of my hand in 2nd grade and it's still with me in my 50s. I view it as a part of my life and it's traveled with me. It's been interesting to see how it's moved across my palm as I have matured. |
Really now? |
