Planning for toy and product shortages?

“Terrible memories” of celebrating your kid’s birthday during Covid? Are you for real? I have terrible memories of all the suffering of people whose loved ones died, including a coworker whose entire immediate family died of Covid: parents and 2 sisters.

Sorry OP, something about the tone of your post has clearly rubbed me the wrong way. I’m pretty sure all of our kids are going to be just fine with less toys. Probably better off really.

Yeah, that was absurdly melodramatic.

Right? One of my favorite memories of covid time is a holiday thing I improvise that we still use 5 years later!

If it happens, and then kids play outside more or play inside creatively with non-electronic toys, then great.

If the result instead is more electronic game playing and more screen time, then not so great.

Toy shortages are not going to push kids into playing outside more. Parents need to step in and change the screen time culture in their homes and neighborhoods.

Get kids outside, learning how to make their own play for once. Expensive toy does not always = more fun.

American kids have so many toys and their rooms are a constant mess. It would be good if they got less toys.
