I talked to the fishmonger at my Whole Foods about this issue, and he said it relates the the shrimp that the farmed salmon are fed. It also is why farm raised salmon now has an extra fatty strip and it didn’t just a few years ago.

I think if you look into salmon farming practices, you’ll realize this is a normal reaction.
