New York City

We love the Beacon Hotel on the Upper West Side. We stay there because it's close to family who live in the neighborhood, so it might not be convenient for everyone.

IME, those “not cramped” rooms are about $1500 a night. Haven’t done that since when I was married to my ex 😅

For the 99%, room sizes are going to be small. It’s NYC.

We recently stayed at the Freehand near Gramercy Park. It had character but was clean and fun. My teen liked it. It was walkable to plenty of places and easy to get on the metro.

I mean like you can walk around the bed, put a suitcase on the floor…not claustrophobic tiny with no window.

There is so much more to see that is not so costly or dangerous. Really you are in an exclusive club if you can afford a few nights in NYC

Did you dip into the thread on Vail and Beaver Creek, too?

Hope so. Very valuable stuff you have to say.

I have had good experiences with the following:
Motto by Hilton Chelsea
Renaissance Chelsea

I stayed here for work. I feel like these hotels are reasonably priced (i.e., they’re within the range of $250 to $500 a night)

If I were staying for pleasure, I’d probably choose midtown (Courtyard Midtown, Le Meridian Central Park, Millennium Hilton)

The Shelburne Sonesta has surprisingly big rooms for NYC and was not too expensive
