This is not near an int’l airport. Unless you count Canada as international. |
Skaneatles is nice and on a lake |
far upstate is kind of a bummer.
we are near rhinebeck in hudson valley and LOVE it. |
Pick a college town like Ithaca, Clinton, or Geneva. |
I think the international airport may be the biggest struggle. Most of the NYS airports are international to Canada and maybe some of the Caribbean. |
Just realized Cazenovia College had closed, in addition to Wells. Has to have impact the town, right? |
We live in Ancram. It’s in Columbia County - east of the Hudson River. Lovely quiet area but 20 minutes to Hudson, Copake, Rhinebeck, Catskill. Berkshires are 45 minutes away. It’s an ideal location. Logan Int’l Airport is a little over 2 hours away. We are selling soon. Beautiful home. Let me know if interested. |
Skaneateles and Saratoga Springs would be the top of my list. Both would be close to Syracuse and Albany airports. Maybe Ithaca? Congrats on a potential move to upstate NY. I miss that area! |
I was going to suggest Pittsford, too. Plus Fairport, Victor, and Canandaigua. All Rochester-area with access to excellent health care. These areas are super affordable compared to NY/NJ/CT. Just be sure to consider the property tax. It's very high, especially in Monroe County. Lastly, Rochester tends to consider itself "Western NY," not upstate. In many ways, the vibe is more midwestern than NYC. |
Woodstock, NY. 90 minutes from Albany and Westchester airports; cute town; close to Amtrak into NYC; 2 hours from NYC by train or car. |

Hudson Valley has a lot of nice towns.
If you are on the east side of the river there are trains that run directly along the Hudson River (either Amtrak or Metro North) to NYC for relatively smooth airport access. |
I'm with the folks suggesting Skaneateles and Saratoga Springs. I've lived in both the Albany and Syracuse areas and can say both towns are top notch. |
