Boys treated as though not capable

Anonymous wrote:I haven’t noticed this among my family members or friends. My boys are very capable and self-sufficient. What I do see is that in my generation many men feign helplessness so their wives won’t ask much of them. DH is a master of this when it comes to household tasks that he has no interest in. Apparently, his mom asked very little of him growing up because he was the only boy.

I see men who don’t see a need to sweep every day are called “helpless” then a woman who can’t even replace a light switch calling a handy man competent.

Not really some mature at 18, some at 22, some at 24.

Parents need to be patient.

That’s BS. What’s your answer when they are still useless at 24? Don’t worry…maturity will kick in at 30?

It’s not ridiculous… brains mature differently.

So at what age is your kid just a loser vs their brain didn’t mature?

It depends. Normal brains mature at 25 but not everyone has a normal brain.

So…at 24.5 it’s just their brain maturing but at 25 they are a loser. Got it.

Stop with the lame excuses for your loser kids.

Such a measured and intelligent response.

Clearly your brain isn’t fully developed… oh wait your over 25 so you are a loser.

Yep that’s it…but hey, hope your adult kid living in your basement is nearing brain maturity…maybe at 40 it will happen.

It never happened for you so who knows.

But he can change the light switch, and change the oil and install a garbage disposal and hang drywall, replace a roof. Can u?

Because society has reprogrammed us to focus on girls, because supposedly they are at a disadvantage, and this has now transformed them to be at an advantage over our poor boys, who are very much at a disadvantage now and being ignored and passed over for things. #savetheboys

I am not real interested in changing the oil…but yeah I can do all the household chores you mention. I can also fix all the home computers and network issues and print 3D parts to fix things that break around the house.

I wouldn’t try to replace the roof.

This begs the question…WTF can’t your kid get a decent job if they in fact can replace the roof?

Same story. One son, coddled, babied, failed to launch, floundered for most of his adult life. Eventually married an older woman who was happy to mother him and is comfortable in the arrangement. No special needs, just completely culturally acceptable for him to do less in every arena - house work, school work, extracurriculars, work, etc. His great accomplishment was being the baby boy, no further requirements ever considered.

Ugh. Many societies value boys more than girls and treat them in this manner.

Why are you so incompetent you have to hire people to do basic things?

Are you saying roofers is not a decent job?

Funny…I just said I can do all these basic things but I guess you can’t read.

Being a roofer is a great job…so I am confused. If your kid is capable then why are you throwing him under the bus and saying he doesn’t have a mature brain?

You have some strange problems. Also, please write in complete sentences…sounds like your brain needs to mature as well.

This must be generational. I can’t think of a single friend from HS in the 1980’s who wasn’t expected and ready to live in a dorm or an off-campus apartment.

This is possibly the dumbest thing I've read on the internet in a week. And that's saying something.

NP. Changing the oil is one every few weeks/months depending on driving habits. Laundry is a several times per week thing. How do men not understand this?

Do y’all really think those once per week (trash) or months (oil changing) tasks are equal in time and effort to things that need to be done several times daily or weekly?

You are really making your kid sound bad. Sounds like a man child where you still do his laundry and other daily household chores and somehow excuse this as normal behavior.

Oh yeah…it’s just that his brain isn’t mature enough to do laundry.
