I’m a substitute and I went in yesterday for an IA who went home sick. The teacher had an IEP that started 10 minutes into her lunch time. She came back a little over an hour and a half later apologizing, and said she finally had to excuse herself to get back to her class. |
I remember when I first started teaching one year I had three students with IPP in the case manager said “wow, That’s a lot this year Now I have about eight or nine in each class and no one thinks it’s a lot. We used to have one IEP meeting per year per student and now we have several for the same student. Is anything new discussed in any of these meetings? No, not really. |
Are those 8 AM meetings held before school hours or during school hours? |
Before. |
Outside of contract hours? |
I teach middle school and have a lot of students with IEPs and 504s. I am often the one who gets chosen to go to their meetings.
My favorite was a parent who wouldn’t let me leave the IEP meeting after my part was done to get me to go back to my class (a class with 8 students with documented disabilities who really need my help), but when I missed 30 minutes of the class that her precious child was in for a different meeting she threw a fit that I was neglecting her son’s education. |
What are contract hours? |
Yup....I personally don't care if they feel better. Personal/sick leave are my days and I have a family and myself to worry about. |
No one wants to talk about this one. |
Not ok. |
This. The parents who complain about the teacher being absent....have no problem making the teacher absent for 50 unnecessary IEP meetings |
Those are also the parents that come 20-40 minutes late for the start of the meeting because they are entitled or proving a point…who knows why. But because they were late, we can’t finish the meeting on time and it throws everyone’s schedule off, Often resulting in the need for a second meeting. It’s intentional, because it happens every time. |
teachers should be allowed one day a week (Mon. through Fri.) off. they are overworked, undercompensated, always doing work on the weekends, etc.
fcps needs to compensate teachers who have leave when they exit the system. |
Yes it is. Contract states there may be meetings outside of school hours. That can include team meetings. It is simply not possible to have all meetings during the time the kids are there. |
DP True. There are a few school board policies that limit things such as the number of staff meetings, their length, and address the notice that needs to be given. |
