| I wear what is flattering on me, if it happens to be on trend great. |

I’m only 36, but the styles and silhouettes that have dominated the last 15 years or so have definitely shifted. Tight/fitted clothing is out, and oversized is in. This is harder imo because the proportions and lengths of everything matter more in order to make them seem flattering and intentional.
Something that has helped me is seeking out influencers or bloggers that reflect my sense of style and “copy” their looks. You can also search on Pinterest (“how to wear straight leg jeans with boots” etc). Merrick’s Art is great for this! |
Agree, but not the ones you wore in 2001. Current flares and bootcuts have a higher rise and people are wearing them a little shorter. Not grazing the floor. |
Accurate ^^ You can go back to flares and boot cut jeans, but not the old ones hanging in your closet... |
DP. They look fine. I wouldn't necessarily want to dress like this person, but her Spring 24 trend forecasts aren't bad at all. And anyone looking to see what is in style for jeans -- her recent post on denim trends sums it up well. |
Don't need to replace, wash, repair, press and hang it all nicely, shoes, purses, accessories, all polished and arranged well. Watch fashion gurus on Ticktock, Instagram etc for inspiration and then try on your own stuff and arrange as outfits to wear differently then you did before. Its called shopping in your own closet. By 40's, everyone already has too much stuff, why add more. If you are crafty, alter some old clothes to your current measurements. May be take off sleeves of some tops or dresses, change basic buttons to nicer ones etc. |

Really, how much clothing do people need?
The fashion industry is one of the biggest polluters on the planet. Shop your closet, thrift stores, or trade with your friends. Don’t we all have enough unnecessary stuff? |
I always wear high rise because they flatter me, but I don't believe anybody notices where exactly my jeans fall or how high the rise is. It's not "giving up" to wear flattering clothes while also realizing no one is looking at you so closely that they notice your hems. Frankly no one was looking that closely 20 years ago but they definitely aren't now in middle age. I just found some high rise, boot cut slacks in my closet from maybe 5 years ago. They’re a little too long. Wore them to work yesterday and got compliments. |
In this territory, too! I hope to never "give up," but also to not try too hard to look trendy. |
| No one cares about your socks |
Some will notice and others won’t, but you do you. Wear what makes you feel confident. |
+1, I've worn boot cut jeans since college. Even when skinny was in - it didn't look good on me so I stayed with bootcut. I've been laughing about everything old is new again as I watch fashions from college come in again. |
| I scroll tiktok so I am up to date. Lots of info there. |

I have switched my Pilates grip socks from the ankle ones to the taller crew ones.
Socks are definitely a thing. |
+1 I’ve noticed slouchy socks and athletic socks with stripes at the top as a big feature with styling on the sites of a lot of the better clothing retailers this season. |
