How many towels should a guy take to college?

My son took two "shower towels" as he calls them, and two hand towels, for drying his face after washing, hand-washing, etc. Pretty sure I sent him with a washcloth, but he brought it home the first time he came back saying "I think I accidentally took this by mistake; sorry."

They don’t take up misch space and even if you are pressed for time and can’t shower, swapping out for fresh underwear is nice

We settled on 3. Dark color. Not bothering with hand towels.

I thought about sending white, since DC might see that they’re dirty and think to wash them, but we use white towels at home, and that doesn’t seem to work here, so there’s no way it’ll make a difference at school.

Lands End sells some that are advertised as “anti-microbial.” It may be a scam, but I figured every little bit helps.

I have a college student and I can assure you ten is not “normal.” If a kid showed up at the dorm on move in day with ten towels it would be a topic of conversation for sure. 2 bath and 1 beach/pool towel is “normal.”

2 bath towels. No hand towels. Uses a scrubbie and not a wash cloth. Same for boy and girl. Plus, one all purpose old pool towel/ cleanup on aisle 3, etc.

FWIW, I had both my kids towels monogrammed. Not because I care about monograms, but because chances are high they aren’t the only kid on the hall with navy towels. I agree they can use the towel for a week. But, not interested in them accidentally grabbing a towel another kid hasn’t washed all semester or having another kid walk away with their towel.

3 plus one wash cloth and one face towel

Take 4 towels and use them for two days. This gets him through one week with a spare if he doesn’t do laundry at exactly the 1 week mark.
