I would like to start sending my child to preschool a couple/few days a week. But all the programs (Upper MoCo) seem to only be 3 and up. Any good programs for those younger that are not just daycare? Also, not requiring child to be potty trained?
thanks! |

Rockville Community Nursery School has morning classes for 2s in their regular co-oping class format, either MWF or TTh. I don't know how many openings they have, but you could call or check their site. www.RCNScoop.org
It's a parent-owned cooperative school so they emphasize parent involvement, and parents take turns helping the teacher & children in the classes. If your child won't be 2 by Sept 1 you could ask about their young 2s class, which is a parent/child class. [It's also open to children who are old enough for the regular 2s but whose parents think they'd do better in that format.] They run that one based on interest (not sure if they will do it this year), but I hear the teacher is really good with little ones and parents. My daughter did the young 2s (Dec birthday) and then enrolled in the regular 2s the following year. We especially like the parent community because it gathers parents who think spending time with their child in the classroom is worth doing (and fun) and who think a lot about parenting, focus on their kids, etc. Lots of SAHM/D families, not all- somebody has to be able to co-op, but you get a month's notice or more on that schedule, so if your work (or spouse's work, or some combo) is flexible enough you'll be fine. They don't require potty training at any age, consistent with their philosophy on knowing and responding to each child individually. My daughter potty trained by 20 months because we EC'd her, but my older son took to age 5+, and they were fine with both. (Though I can't say that I was, really!!! I was convinced that my DS wouldn't be potty trained by college- EC was SO much better.) |

Hi. The Broadman-Kaplan Early Childhood Center at Tikvat Israel starts accepting children at 18 months and has room in their 2's classes. They offer flexible scheduling so for a 2 year old you can choose to do 3, 4 or 5 days per week and you choose the days. The core hours are from 9 am - 1 pm and they are open for before and after care if needed on occasion. The teachers are nurturing and they balance learning through play with the skills needed to be ready for kindergarten.
My 2 children attend the program and there are such nice families. Even though it is a Jewish preschool they respect all cultures and religions and have many families who are not Jewish (in case you were wondering). They are located off Norbeck Rd, next to Rockville High School. Check out the website at: www.broadman-kaplan.org or call 301-251-0455 |
| Covenant United Methodist Church in Montgomery Village has a morning two's program, no potty-training required. |
| Where do you live to find approximity to a 2 year old program ? |

| Try Georgetown Hill in Darnstown. www.georgetownhill.com |
| Christ Episcopal Preschool is the best in Moco hands down. Everyone who works their is early childhood certified and the director is one of the leading educational experts in the region if not the nation. They have one spot remaining in their 2-year-old class which runs Tues/Thurs or Tues/Wed/Thurs from 8:30 - 12 or 8:30-3...very flexible. call them - 301-424-8702 |
| Location wise, along the 270 corridor. It would be best not to have to go down into Bethesda, but if necessary I would. Additionally I would be willing to go up to Frederick if necessary also. |
Epworth is right off 270 at Shady Grove exit. Christ Episcopal is a few minutes in off Exit 5 or 6. |
| Not sure where you are in the county, but Kensington Nursery School (a co-op) might have spots in its 2s class, I think. It is 2 mornings per week and they do not require potty training. |
| Oops I see that you are looking further north. |
| so i know bethesda's not ideal but petals in bethesda has a two year old preschool class and the teachers are really warm and caring. it's right off 495 which makes it an easy commute from the northern part of the county. |
