Took 3 years off and now trying to get back into workplace--need advice

Anonymous
I have been a stay at home mom for the last 3 years and am dying to get back to work. Have I been out of the workplace for too long? I'm 46, will I face age discrimination? Is getting a temp job advisable to getting back into the workforce?
Do you have any advice for me?

Tell us more about the work you did before you had children. Have you done anything to keep up your skills in the field you left? Are you planning to stay in that field? Are you looking for FT or PT work?

A temp project would be a good way to get your foot back in the door to see what is out there. The good thing about a temp project is both you and the employer get a look at each other before having to make a commitment. Good luck!

Get a new outfit, get your hair done, dust off your resume and go for it!

Get in touch with former colleagues and network. Let people know you're looking. Definitely take a temp job, to get back in the workplace.

Thanks for the tips! I was in public health research for close to 15 years. Other than reading online articles about my field, I was not active during the past 3 years. I am looking for FT or PT work. I will get in touch with the temp agencies to see what they have available.

Also make sure to have a really good LinkedIn presence. Many recruiters hire right off of LinkedIn contacts (I'm one of them!) I'm sorry I don't do any public health recruiting but google to see who might. Good luck!
