Clomid question - please help-

My doctor prescribed Clomid and told me there were no side effects (except for the increased chance of having twins). I did research and found out that there are actually side effects: thinning of the uterine lining and hostile cervical mucus and overall dryness that can impact fertility. One of my friends who took Clomid and got pregnant on Clomid told me that when she was taking Clomid, her doctor also prescribed estrogen b/c estrogen helps support the uterine lining and helps with dryness. In other words, estrogen fights against the side effects of Clomid that can impact fertility. My friend is convinced that estrogen is what made her get pregnant on Clomid. My doctor did not prescribe me estrogen and I am concerned that I should not be taking Clomid without an estrogen supplement.
Has any of you gotten pregnant on Clomid without taking an estrogen supplement? What do you think about the need to take estrogen to prevent the side effects of Clomid?

Hi, I got pregnant three times on Clomid, within a month or two of taking it, with no side effects and no estrogen. HTH.

To 19:25- OP here: thanks for your reply, it makes me feel much better. Did you take Robitussin/Mucinex or preseed together with the Clomid or just the Clomid? Also, did you notice any dryness when on Clomid or not at all?

I used preseed and somehow it worked because I tested positive this morning! (it was my fisrt round of clomid). Good luck to you !

PP: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

OP: i also got PG on my 1st round of clomid and i had HORRIBLE side effects. before O i was sooooo depressed and then after O i was totally moody. and i was only on 50mgs, CDs 4-8. I also had to use Preseed because I had zero CM, which was never a problem before. DEFINITELY use the preseed if you're going to take clomid ... it's one of those "can't hurt might help" kind of things. it definitely helped me!!

my estrogen was frightfully low on clomid, but it did not occur to my RE to put me on supplements. it finally got up to the point where he felt comfortable giving me an HCG trigger to make me ovulate, but it was def. low. i think he attributed it to my ongoing hormonal imbalance. he was going to bump me up to 100 mgs for the next cycle but i never had a next cycle.

i don't think you'll need the estrogen, just use the preseed. and don't be surprised if you get moody on clomid. i actually told my DH that he had BETTER knock me up because i was never taking it again!! i was a hormonal mess on it ... but it certainly did work.

GOOD LUCK and keep us posted!!

I tried Clomid for 2 month and each month my uterine lining was very thin and my cm was practically non existent. My doc did say that Evening Primrose Oil and Robotussin could help this, but in my case it didn't. I am now trying Follistem injectibles and my lining and cm are both good. I had limited monitoring before I started the Clomid, so its a little hard to say what the exact causes were for the results, but if you have trouble, talk with your doctor about the injectibles. Aside from the shots (which really don't hurt) the Follistem is the easier drug to take in my opinion.
