Can I do the HSG test during my period?

My doctor just said to do the test before day 11. Due to an upcoming vacation, I'd really like to do it on day 2 or 3 of my cycle - is that okay?

No, it has to be on certain days of your cycle.

I've had 4 done. Generally it shoud be done after bleeding finishes and before you ovulate. I couldn't imagine doing it on day 2 or 3. It would be a huge mess. And it has to be before you ovulate because they don't want to take the risk that you could be pregnant.

I'm a lesbian, so there was not possible risk of me getting "accidentally" pregnant. For one of the HSG's, I had it done right after ovulation and just backed up the dates, saying my period had just started, can I come in 7 days from now? Instead of getting the HSG on day 7 of my cycle, it was really day 17.

OP here - thanks. I actually have a long cycle and ovulate "late" (day 21-24), so even my doctor said that the day 11 cut-off wouldn't matter for me, but that the radiologist wouldn't believe me and wouldn't do it. So maybe I will fudge things a bit to come in after my vacation (which I think would likely be day 13-14... well before I ovulate). Any reason that wouldn't work? So long as it's before ovulation I'm good, right?

14:45 here: Sure, you should be fine. To be clear, my point was that [b]you can't be pregnant, even for a minute. So if you do not have any intercourse ( which means there's no possibility of being pregnant) or if you have intercourse with a condom, you can do the HSG whenever--before, during or after ovulation.

Just be sure to call in for your appt when you "start" your fake period. Figure out which couple of days you want to do your HSG and then back it up 5-7 days and make the call.

Good luck! I got pregnant in the next cycle after my HSG and then again with baby #2 in the second cycle after the HSG.
