Out of area posters

Jeff-
There seems to be a lot of issues with nannies from out of town posting in the Nanny forum. I personally see no problem with it, as I am an out of town nanny and love reading and posting here. Can you clarify something for me--is this site limited to nannies and parents limited to the DC area, or are out of town or state nannies date I say "allowed" to post here, too? Thanks!

I have no problem with posters from outside the area. But, these posters need to remember that this is a DC-centric site. As long as that aspect of the site is respected, anyone is welcome. So, coming and talking about nanny issues, or most any other issue, is welcome. Showing up to bash DC will quickly get you on my sh*t list.

The people who run this site don't care! MORE TRAFFIC = MORE MONEY! That's why their are ads everywhere!

The nanny forum is basically 48% DC, 52% other places. Oh well. Get over it. It's interactive, it gets a lot of views/hits/replies.... I don't see the problem here

I sure hope Jeff and Marie can make a lot of money running this site. Why shouldn't they? Their advertisers allow them to dedicate more time to running this site which costs users NOTHING to use. If you dn't like it, don't visit.

13:20 is exactly the problem with out of area posters. Clearly, (s)he didn't read the thread and immediately went to the "more of us than you, DC, so suck it."

Jeff, this sounds an awful like the DC bashing you say is not welcome here.

The second problem is that out of area nannies post problems and questions that we can't answer because the nanny market is different everywhere. They don't give enough information about their location, and spend a lot of time telling off people without any understanding that this place is not designed for them and isn't meant to meet their needs. If their needs overlap with those of DC nannies (and moms and dads), fine. But it is irritating to wade through their outrage and insults because they live in a place where the rates are low, contracts are rare, off the books is common, and bringing your kid to work is a great thing. Not to mention the endless talk of how hard it is to be a nanny to an LA or NY celebrity.

I wouldn't suggest banning them, but they should understand that this is a DC centric site and reference their questions appropriately.
