| You are supposed to tip babysitters, right? Is it a percentage? $5? Do you tip the same if babysitter's rate is $10 as you do when the rate is $17 an hour? |
| where were you when i was babysitting? |
| I've never tipped a babysitter. They set their rates, right? So that's what you pay them. Maybe something extra at Christmas? |
| I only would tip if I hired them through a service of some kind, like sittercity. |
| really?? i had no idea! i've tipped everytime except when i did it through like Mommy Relief ($26 an hour). |
| Kinda defeats the purpose of setting an hourly rate, no? I do round up though. |
We typically round up, both in hours and amounts and are more likely to "tip" when the babysitters rates are low. I think it depends on the situation and your relationship with the sitter. However, keep in mind, good sitters are hard to find and they are more likely to say "yes" to those clients who treat them well

I am a babysitter, not a nanny and you should tip me. Tip me about an hour's pay. I know that seems ridiculous but you get your money's worth out of it.
I am one of those babysitters who plays with your kids and teaches them stuff. There's no tv. I won't use my cell phone until the kids are asleep. You'll come home and your five year old will now know how to do a back-walkover or count to ten in French or Spanish. I'll have gotten your potty-training kid to wash their hands like a surgeon. If they slept while I was there, then when you come home a load of clean laundry will be folded. Or I'll have organized all the kiddie books. Something. Plus, if you're a good tipper, I will move heaven and earth to always be available to babysit for you. |
| Let's see, I pay someone $15/hour to watch my sleeping infant and play with my well-behaved 4-year old for 30 minutes before her bedtime. Then she reads/watches TV/studies on my couch alone for 3 hours until I get home. So yes, I may round up with time and dollars, but no, I don't tip, certainly not an hour's pay. |
Sorry, but that IS ridiculous. Tipping has gotten out of control. NO, you do not need to tip a babysitter. I do typically round up the hour though. |
| I don't expect tips but I do think the parents are kind of cheap when they don't round up to the hour and calculate exactly what they owe down to the dollar. |
i'm a nanny and i agree with this. |
It's not ridiculous, since everyone I babysit for does tip me. |
|
I don't think you need to tip. Babysitting is not like waitressing, where you are depending on tips for the majority of the wage. I set my rates, so I have only myself to blame if I'm satisfied with my pay at the end of the night.
I did have a parent a couple times who gave me a check and calculated time right down to 50 cents. I thought that was a bit odd, especially as it's not like she is taking out taxes or anything, but oh well. |

I am a nanny and babysit on the side. Most people round up to the next $5, So if you owe $68 give $70.
I dont expect it, If you have the exact change i'm ok with that, however if you ask for change its going to piss me off. Ive had 2 families ask for change and when I didnt have it they wanted ti put that money towards the next time I babysat....thats cheap. |
