Maryland campsite that set up tents for you?

Anonymous
I remember seeing this in the Wash. Post a year or more ago. There are places where people (who don't know anything about camping) can go and they have tents set up for you and even give you s'mores or something.

DH is not very handy/outdoorsy. I've not been camping since I was a wee girl scout. We don't want to invest in tents and gear. But, would like to give it a try at least once.

Anyone know where they do this? It's like camping for softie East Coasters!

PP here. Never mind. It's under new management and apparently it sucks now. See this review- http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g41318-d673359-Reviews-Camp_Merryelande-Piney_Point_Maryland.html

You can rent camping gear! Or staying in a cabin might be a good idea.

I'm sure this will sound really ignorant, but are there places where I can rent a cabin just for my family if we are not part of a larger group?

Jellystone in Hagarstown has cabins. As rough as you want it and lots of fun things for the kids.

Oh yes, I remember that article. If I recall correctly, it's called "glamping" as in glamour+ camping. I thought the places that the author visited were in NY state. Try googling glamping and see what comes up.

Shenadoah has both some bare bones cabins in Lewis Mtn campground and some hotel room/cabins (in Skyland I think). I think some of the state parks have cabins too. Most people who camp aren"t with a big group.

Is there a point in camping if you don't do it yourself (laughing hysterically the entire time)???

Rent a cabin if you don't want the hassle of a tent.

And s'mores are not that difficult to construct yourself...

We are staying here in one of the "tree houses" this weekend. Usually we go to Loft Mountain in the Shenandoah's, but it's impossible to get there on a Friday without leaving work early (which DH cannot do right now).

I assume we still need air mattresses or whatever we prefer to sleep on, but we'll be able to get there on Friday evening and not have to worry about setting up a tent.

Northern Va parks have cabins.
West Virginia state parks have cabins.
Probably all state parks have cabins. Usually a pretty good deal. Varying degrees of rustic to finished.

Yes, Camp Merrylande is not a place to go these days. Too bad--nice beach.

Little Bennett does that (see bottom of page)

Janes Island State Park in Maryland has full service cabins. You provide bedding and towels. Never stayed in a cabin, I always do "backcountry" sites where you have to lug all your stuff in a kayak, but the cabins look nice enough.
