I'm a Dem, husband's a Republican. Any other divided households out there?
Luckily the kid's still a baby and can't understand what we say to each other. It's starting to get very heated and I hope it doesn't get ugly. I just want to SCREAM that I think he's an idiot and why can't he see how wrong he is but of course I knew what I was getting into when I married him and of course I do try to behave like a grownup. How do others in the same situation handle it? What's it like when kids are older and understand everything? |
We are in a similar situation. But after McCain's VP announcement, my DH (a middle-of-the-road Republican) admitted that the choice was a joke and borderline scary...So maybe we won't be screaming at each other over the coming months ![]() |
My husband and I are completely different wavelengths politically (he listens to conspiracy theorists, etc.) and I just roll my eyes and ignore it as much as I can. We don't discuss it. |
I'm a Dem and my husband is a Republican as well. I have no clue how we'll deal with this when the kids are older. Hopefully my persuasiveness will win my kids over to my side.! |
I'm a Dem; DH is a Rep. We have an agreement - we never discuss politics with each other.
Works for us. |
My (grown) son shocked me a few years ago by telling me he thought GHWB was the worst president ever. I said he did not compare to GWB. Major father-son friction! Fortunately, our President solved my family problem by convincing my son that I was right.
Okay, so that's not the kind of divided household you meant. I just threw it in for laughs ... at least a chuckle, maybe? |
Generally, my husband is a republican, and votes that way. Although, he did vote for Bill Clinton the second time... Since 1992, I have voted almost exclusively for democrats. This time around, we will likely both be voting for McCain/Palin. My mother and father have cancelled each other's votes out for years with my dad voting for republicans and my mother voting for democrats. I suspect that they will both be voting for McCain/Palin as well. So this year, we will be a house divided no more. |
I'm a republican, my husband is a dem. He's a reporter. I'm currently finishing up law school. We've agreed not to speak to each other until next year. ![]() |
I'm a DEM-my DH is Rep, although he voted for Clinton in both elections. He regrets voting for Bush.
I'm for Obama-and he's leaning towards Obama also. Palin scares the shit out of me!!! I mean what kind of person (notice I didn't say woman) kills animals for pleasure, denies global warming, doesn't believe in abortion even in cases of rape/incest, believes creationalism should be taught in school and not evolution and doesn't want to save the polar bears ![]() My mom is a registered Republican and is voting for Obama! |
Let your children decide - maybe they'll turn out to be supporters of the socialism, the Green party, or Indep.? Having two parents passionate about their respective party provides them a great 2-sided picture so the decision can be theirs to decide. I grew up in a "one-sided" household. It wasn't until I went to college and started working in the real world that I observed and found out about other political views. |
I have always voted Democratic, and my husband is a registered Republican who has never actually voted for a Republican candidate at anything higher than the local level. He is a fiscal conservative unhappy about the religious right's takeover of the party, so we never had a problem. But now he's actually considering voting McCain, and we're having some heated words in our house! I think we'll have to take a tip from PPs and declare a moratorium on political talk until Nov 5... |
Technically, I'm a Democrat and have pretty much always voted that way; DH is a Republican who pretty much always votes that way. We are both, however, pretty moderate. We tend to agree on both social and economic issues. So really, I think that are both D/R in name only; we just disagree on candidates! |
I'm curious why after all these years you say you & your mother have voted democrat, the sudden change? As the other forum asks, "R U Bold Enough to Say It?" |
I'm (generally) a Republican, although am leaning towards the Dem side this year. But when DH came home with a "Babies for Obama" t-shirt for our 13-month old, I put my foot down. No. No. No. |
I think it's cute! Where did he get the t-shirt? |
