In our house, we call it having a "mixed marriage." I'm the liberal democrat; husband is a conservative republican (I doubt either of us has ever crossed party lines). I hope our children will enjoy growing up in a house where politics is discussed and debated hotly, on the merits of issues, but with a basis of love between the parties. And at least one parent will be in a good mood after every election ![]() |
We are a "mixed marriage" in a more traditional sense. I don't think my parents could have handled it if he was a republican. The in-laws were able to bond over growing up in the same area and with it having similar political leanings. That said, my young daughter (3 1/2) came home one day and said she wanted to vote for McCain. This is when I started to start thinking maybe I should start homeschooling - where do kids pick up these things ![]() |
we joke that we'll cancel out each other's vote ![]() |
Mixed marriage -- he's an anarchist, I'm a socialist. Oh, right, that's probably not what you meant! ![]() |
Poster is implying that you won't vote for Obama b/c he is black. I won't vote for Obama b/c of posters like these and all of the nasty comments on motherhood in regards to Palin. Don't want to be associated with this. These kind of posters are doing all of the grass roots work for the republicans, as it really turns off the moderates who sit in the middle. |
You are absolutely right. Those liberal assholes totally turn me off! I support McCain because his VP is hot and would never vote for an ivy-league Muslim African like Obama! |
And it doesn't just turn off the moderates! I'm on the far left but I get sooo tired of the Thought Police on the left. That poster does indeed imply that "you disagree with me so you must be a racist." Disgusting! |
Just curious, why the switch in both households? |
I don't think that I could live in a household that is divided. I am too passionate about the issues that I care about and part of what attracted me to my husband was the fact that we were had similar political leanings. We disagree about minor issues but nothing that would cause us to vote for different presidential candidates. Speaking of the kids, we found a very funny way to teach our 3 yo two of the primary colors (Red and Blue). It warms my heart when she runs arouns singing "Virginia es Rojo, New York es Azul" ![]() |
You won't vote for Obama because of anonymous posters on a parenting message board. I am not sure I've ever heard such a dumb statement. Are you aware that "all of the nasty comments" aren't coming from Obama or anyone in his campaign? Are you aware of "all of the nasty comments" ABOUT Obama, Michelle, and what they stand for? |
I agree completely. And very cute about your 3 yo! |
I support McCain because his VP is hot and would never vote for an ivy-league Muslim African like Obama!
Thanks for proving my point, A**hole! Ignorance at its finest...Can talk alot of sh** behind the 'anonymous' posting... |
I believe the first remark was a parody of posts that have come up in other threads. There is actually an entire thread devoted to whether men consider Palin hot. I realize that DCUM makes satire nearly impossible, but it should be obvious that anyone voting on the basis of physical appearance would choose the candidate supported by Michelle Obama. |
I am a Republican and my husband is a Democrat. We talk about politics all the time and have never really had a fight over it, and not for lack of passion. We both want the same things for our country and simply have different ideas about how to achieve those ends. Most importantly we respect the other's view and acknowledge that it has merit. I have become rather disaffected by politics in recent years because it seems to be the commonly held belief (on both sides) that each side somehow has cornered the market on the truth and anyone who disagrees is stupid/deluded/misinformed/evil/corrupt. I sincerely wish there as more room for rational discussion of the issues. I don't think it is healthy when people only discuss the issues with those who agree with them and can't speak respectfully or with an open mind across the aisle.
