That should glean some insights to Thru’s suggestions per their circled split feeder map. Would imagine attendance islands as well.

Did sound like a lot of geographical factors will be taking into consideration too (not crossing our major highways).

Was the 'not crossing our major highways' her words?

She mentioned the Beltway which is applicable for her district, not sure on others. Also, in my virtual community engagement session, the FCPS staff member mentioned “natural borders” like beltway, 66, etc.

That is very sensible. I-66 is major geographic boundary. Much more so than route 7, even with its barriers and multiple lanes of traffic. I-66 and route 7 are not the same thing.

Sending a students zoned in Waples across I-66 to Johnson/Fairfax would be absurd. You would be trading 2 years of whatever “benefit” you believe exists from a MS shift from Carson/Franklin to Johnson for 6 years of cross-66 transit through the heart of Fairfax, with 2-3 of those years being new, teenage drivers. That would be a ridiculous move.

I’m not advocating for the change, but highways as barriers is much different than something like Rt-7 or Rt-50. In most cases when a highway is a barrier, there is an overpass or underpass to cross it. There are McLean walkers who “cross” 267 daily. The bigger hassle Waples parents would experience is traffic on Rt-50 to get to Fairfax HS. Not the act of crossing I-66.

Wow, Langley. Aren’t you the least bit concerned that throwing so many other parts of the county under the bus to keep Herndon addresses that are on the Herndon High side of route 7 zoned to Langley will slow the busses down so much that FCPS has a transit base case for boundary change? Wow.

As a reminder, most of the time we don’t know where posters on this forum live. The poster to whom you’re responding is just as likely to be zoned to Oakton than to Langley, if not more so.

Ok, gatehouse.

It will be announced soon I’ve heard.

Got my curiosity up. I looked at the Langley map. I have a hard time with these boundary maps, but it looks to me that all those neighborhoods on Herndon side of Rt 7 must exit onto Route 7 to go almost anywhere. Is that true? In other words, no exit onto Dranesville Rd or 286. Is that true?

The holistic plan is a good idea, but there needs to be some realism about the decrease in enrollment in the future. Between stricter immigration policies and fewer kids per person, we are in for a big change.

If county wide boundary study is what you mean, it is a terrible idea. Way too many variables. Fix problems where they are. Too many schools too close together to fix this properly. Dominos will make a mess.

Honestly, the town hall was so casual and she seemed so unphased by the boundary questions. I can actually see it being paused based on her reactions.

Why are you saying this? Just to mess with everyone and get their hopes up or do you have an actual source for this comment?

I don’t think it will be scrapped entirely. There are some moves they want to make re: the elementary split feeders and attendance islands. But I’m starting to think the changes are going to be limited to those schools that are affected by these irregular boundaries.

I agree! Attendance islands and some natural boundaries are slightyyyy defendable. Maybe some closure of split feeders if capacity allows. Possibly some program assessment to bring students back to base schools.

And how did we hear it would be paused?? And when will the public know?

Not all. Some neighborhoods on the Herndon/Reston side of Route 7 have easy access to Fairfax County Parkway, Reston Ave to Whiele and Reston Parkway.

I’m pretty sure it’s just someone trolling.

Some of the Herndon neighborhoods can exit onto Route 286 via Sugarland Road. It's actually some of the Reston and Vienna neighborhoods (like Carpers Farm) that are entirely off Route 7.
