question on Fairfax County schools dress code. I searched for the dress code and found it (I think), but I am looking for elementary school rules, like can my child wear the Skechers shoes with wheels or spin ball on bottom ? my child wants them but I am not buying them if she can't wear them in the fall to school. Anyone know if it s online or should I contact the school?

Of course not. Are you going to ask if rollerblades would be a good alternative?
I thought it was a legitimate question. Skechers makes the Ballerina shoes with the ball on the bottom where the child can spin around. I didn't think they would be unsafe for school, but that is mainly what I meant.
They are unsafe at any speed! My child required three stitches. These shoes are banned in our schools for good reason.
By all means send your kid to school in those asinine shoes. Providing you want the teacher to identify you as a pain in the ass with no common sense family from day one.

Following is from my child's school's "Parent/Student Handbook" found on our school's website:
Students should bring or wear tennis shoes or sneakers on days when they have physical education to allow for a safe P.E. program. Students are prohibited from wearing shoes that contain wheels in the heel, better known as Heeleys. These shoes when used in school buildings can cause injury to oneself, other students, and staff when the wearer loses control and slides into other individuals. These shoes were designed to be used outside in an area where children have lots of room to skate and with the use of a helmet. You may wish to contact the school directly or peruse your school's website for a similar document for your child's school... |
