I just noticed on the school calendar that there's a DC CAS composition test for 4th grader. What is this test and why does it take 3 days? Is this a requirement under NCLB?
Thanks in advance. |
The CAS is 3 days long. The composition portion is just one portion -I beleive it was new last year, and is only the 4th graders. They write an essay- but I do not remember what its about (my son is in 5th grade this year.) The CAS is given in the spring, the BAS (baseline) is given in September. There are I think 8 parts- reading is broken down into: language development, informational text, and literary text.
Math is broken into 5 parts. Now that you mention it, I do not see the composition portion results in the packet that I got (this week) with his results from last spring. The testing lasted 2-2.5 hours a day for 3 days. It was not a full 3 days. I do believe its an NCLB thing- but I may be wrong. . |
