Schools and Education General Discussion
| Anyone care to share their experience with the Landon School? |

This is probably different from the feedback that you are looking for, and also dealing with the upper grades, but i figured i might as well post. I have a family friend who went to Landon and graduated in 2005. From what I hear, he loved it and had a great experiance.
However, he and I had to work on a project together dealing with WWII history, and it became very apparent that while he was at Landon, he had been given no education on the Holocaust. I found it interesting that Landon chose to leave that out. On the other hand, I'm basing the idea that the Holocaust was not taught off of one person, who may have just slept through it
For me, based on that info, i would do a fairly in depth look into what the curriculum covers, as i think that thi this area, the Holocaust is definitly a subject studied in most of the county public schools, as well as many of the private schools |

Actually not true--I went to public school and learned nothing of the holocoust from school. I went on to Syracuse..a school with a large jewish pop. and learned in more detail from a class on jewish studies. In any event, I wouldn't not pick a school because they didn't teach a certain history--because something is always missing..the extermination of the armenians, the tibet people who were exterminated, the Iraqis who were exterminated, Ruwanda...list goes on and on. I would be more concerned with the overall education and Landon is excellent.

PP~
I at no point said that Landon's education was not a good one. I just mentioned something that I felt it was lacking. If you read my post carefully, i even said that it was possible that my friend slept throught that unit, lol. All i meant with the post was that i felt it was worth a good look into the curriculum.Because it is a private school, it can pick and choose what it wants to teach, and as parents who are paying for an education, i think you should be well informed about what that eduction is. And, you are correct, all curriculums leave something out, i guess the important thing is if you agree with it being left out. |
