(for a 10 yr old girl with no previous gymnastics experience)
I see a lot of dance schools but none of them have gymnastics. That seems to be a separate thing. A 10-ish mile radius from Vienna/McLean is okay. thanks. |
| There's one in Fairfax, the Arlington YMCA in No. Arlington, and Gymini in Herdon that is just off the toll road. Most people go to one of those. |
| We live in Vienna and I have friends that go to Fairfax. If you're not looking for competition, the Vienna CC also offers classes and the teacher is wonderful. |
Is that the Vienna Community Center? |
| New poster here. Yes, the Vienna Community Center. I thought the Vienna classes were kinda lame. Its not like they have gymnastics equipment or anything. It was just tumbling on a mat. |
| Oh okay, good to know. We would like to get her into something more sophisticated than that. |
| Fairfax Gymnastics is full! =( Any other ideas? About a 10 (or so) mile radius from Vienna/Tysons? |
|
It's going to be a tough time to find a gymnastics spot. There is always a huge surge the year of the Olympics and it is even greater when the USA does well.
From Tyson's...there is always Gymini in Herndon or Dulles Gymnastics in Sterling. There just isn't anything in a 10 mile radius. |
| Any thoughts on Capital Gymnastics in Burke? (not 10-mi radius but still) |
Been taking my kid there for over 5 years. Couldn't be happier. |

Something that isn't full? There is Arlington Parks and Rec, but registration already happened and there won't be any more spaces until Jan. So, maybe in 4 months if you still want it. Vienna/Mclean could be an easy or hard to commute to a bunch of places depending on what roads you live off. There's DDC in Alexandria if you take the beltway south.
If you live near 66 then it might be counter-intuitive, but you are probably closer to something west on 66 esp if you go on Saturday when there isn't really traffic. It would be probably 25 minutes to Chantilly Academy. Or there is a cheerleading place in Merrifield with tumbling/tramp - Infinity Cheer. Cardinal and Capital in Burke. |
How did you find out? I have been trying to get in touch with them for two weeks but can never reach them via phone or email
|
| Try the Vienna Communiy Center. They DO have equipment - high and low beam, uneven parallel bars, vault and mat. Classes for different ages. Large classes though (20-25) but teacher has 2 assistant girls. They spend a lot f time n mat warmu and taking roll call, but looks like good variety of activity so far. They stress safety, but during warmup today (2nd class) the teachers all sat on the floor and called out moves they were to do and didn't correct kids doing moves wrong...hmmm. Wor th a try though as cost is fair and hours are great with safe equipment and space. |
| Go look at Gymini gymnastics in Herdon. I, too, am in McLean but made that drive twice a week for many years for both DS and DD. There is a HOT lane so if traffic gets bad you can pop on it. It may not be within your l0 mile, but it is a straight through drive on Dulles Access Road to Herndon - no lights except the one at Sunset in Herndon. |
| Gymini has a good reputation but is a little far for us. Fairfax Gymnastics is crowded but fine for us. DC did a class at the Little Gym in Fairfax before starting at Fairfax and liked it. We would have stayed, but they cancelled the class. |
