Arlington High School College Acceptances

Anonymous
Are college acceptances for the graduating classes of 2012 in Arlington posted on-line anywhere? Thanks.

Not meaning to be rude, just unaware I guess....Is it anyone's business where anyone gets accepted to college? Why would this be posted online?

if you are trying to consider whether you want your child to go to this school, then the college admissions of other graduates is a concern to you.

Many schools do post college acceptances. The norm is giving this without the student names, thereby protecting privacy. Parents often like to see how many kids were accepted to the Ivies, the flagship state schools, etc.

The three high school newspapers published where Seniors are going for college in the fall. So it's not exactly a list of acceptances. The W-L list can be found on the school's newspaper site which is online. Yorktown and Wakefield do not have their lists online.

Two students got into Yale, which is nice, but I was surprised by the low numbers of students going to U. Va, Tech and W&M, and the high number of W-L students headed for VCU and NoVa.

I'd say the W-L list is pretty good.

5 to the ivies. UPenn, Yale (2), Cornell, and Columbia

In VA, 6 to W&M, 14 to UVA, 17 to JMU, 19 to VaTech, 12 to GMU, and large numbers to VCU and NOVA.

In DC: Georgetown, AU and GW.

2 to RISD; in Cali: Berkeley, UCLA; in NC: Davidson and Duke; in Georgia: 3 to Ga Tech; Carnegie Mellon; etc...

And lots of other liberal arts colleges and state schools throughout the US. It looks like between 1/3 to 1/2 of the class is going to college outside of Virginia.

I didn't see Carnegie Mellon on the list, and 14 is a low number going to U. Va.

I doubt the low number to UVA & W-M have little to do with the quality of education they received at W-L and everything to do with the quotas. Also, heading to NOVA for a couple of years and then on to UVA or W-M is not a dumb idea.

Last year at least twice as many went to UVA. Could explain why there are more students going out of state this year.

Are there special quotas for W-L? Some schools in Fairfax send @ 25-35 grads to U. Va year-in year-out.

Surprised at the high numbers going to NOVA? There are a lot of kids at W&L without much money.

You might want to check around at schools like Woodson, moron.

Just looking at the list, it is quite respectable for an older suburban school that educates poor immigrants in addition to wealthy North Arlington neighborhoods. Just on my street there are a half dozen young families who are excited about the public schools through all the way through high school, and this list backs up our choice to move here. We are lucky that public school support is very high in Arlington.
