I've been looking at the area called Indian Spring south of the beltway between Colesville and University. Can anyone comment on what this neighborhood is like? Are there things to do? I notice some of the creeks go near there...biking? Is it walkable to anything? Sense of community? I have older kids (age 10 and up) so wondering if there are kids in the neighborhood. And interested in knowing about traffic noise and safety also. TIA.
I don't live there myself (although not far) but I have friends who live there and love it. They have kids ages 12 and 8 and there are lots of peers for them. You can walk to the Y and parks, and you might be able to walk to downtown Silver Spring from there. It's a nice neighborhood and several of our friends have added on to their houses rather than move.
We live closer to DTSS but I drive through Indian Springs ocassionally and wish we'd known about it when we moved. It's a mile from the downtown area, right by the Y, easy access to the highway, near Sligo Creek park which is great for biking and running. The houses look big and are relatively low-priced for the area. I always see kids running around too.
I live in the neighborhood, and really like it. There is a strong community association that is very active with events like fall festival, 4th of July parade. Lots of neighbors belong to the Y, which we can walk to. My kids always see friends at the pool. The elementary school, Highland View is wonderful with a very active PTA and a great principal. It is also very close to the Woodmoor shopping center for CVS, Starbucks, a great italian deli and a wonderful old school bakery.
