Are you wearing red, white, or blue for the 4th?

I am. I think it's cute. No Old Navy 2012 flag shirt or anything, just white shirt and red shorts and white tennies. I'm sure some will still see me and consider me a tourist. What say DCUM- is dressing in RWB on the 4th tacky or acceptable?

I will. I don't care if it is tacky

My husband LOVES loves loves dressing up on holidays - the Halloween tie, the giant flag shirt, the Christmas sweater.

It wasn't until my mid 30s that I adopted the mantra adults do not dress in costumes unless it is a costume party - picked up from What Not To Wear.

But I think What Not to Wear show extreme cases, like the woman who had a holiday sweatshirt for every occasion. I think a subtle outfit with a nod to the holiday is entirely appropriate (your red shorts). I might even take it a step further with a blue belt, but maybe that is the step too far?

I was just thinking last night of my 4th outfit. I might do brown shorts, white t, and red belt and sandals.

It's tacky and acceptable. I'm going to do it and so will my kids. It's patriotic and fun, and cheesy.

Here's my "look" -- I couldn't resist it.

[Smacks forehead and makes disapproving face, then, realizing your gaudy displays just make my family look more elegant, I suddenly feel both relieved and smugly superior.]

The white tennies are the worst part.

Can't tell if you're joking or actually that smug. What will you be wearing?

Toddler DD has red, white and blue top. I'll probably be in a navy blue shirt and a khaki skirt. No red in my wardrobe. DH will probably be in a blue or red golf shirt and khaki shorts as well.

Don't be jelly! There's still time to go buy a tank top with a bald eagle on it. 8) 8) 8)
