How long does food last in power outage?

Anonymous
..if it does not contain animal products, fridge is not opened, it's in a basement around 80 degrees for 45 hours wiithout power? Wondering the same thing about freezer items. Thanks in advance. Do not like to waste, but also not up for food poisoning.

I threw basically everything out other than jams, jelly, butter, and ketchup. I also had some flour in the fridge and I kept it.

Is it beer or wine? Cause that won't last. You definitely need to drink that. Now.

Do you have something like ice or Popsicles that will give you an idea if they melted? We had Popsicles in the freezer that just looked slightly asymmetrical. I took that to mean there was little melting. We just ate chop meat tonight and have lived to tell (so far). We were only out for about 24 though.. I would be comfortable keeping frozen waffles/bread/veggies/frozen entrees (which are fully cooked) but not anything raw.

According to news reports, DO NOT keep veges and frozen entrees.

I threw it ALL out ( we lost power Friday night, just got it back this morning) - the CDC has a good website about this.

look on food safety.gov

Think of it as God's way of saying 'You really don't have to eat that nasty Lean Cuisine. Ever."
