please share your fav baby shower menu items

Friends and I are hosting a baby shower for a friend- we're looking for some appetizer-type dishes that can easily be eaten in a bite or two and won't require much cooking on-site due to the ridiculous temps of late.

Shower is at lunch time.

Thank you!

You mean to go with our general theme of, "your life is already over- why not throw in the towel?"

Small finger foods are nice:

1. cut up veggies/dip
2. cut up fruits/chocolate dip
3. mini-meatballs (make in advance)
4. cupcakes (get special ones made or make your own)
5. mini-chicken salad and shrimp salad sandwiches
5. nuts/cheese/crackers
6. tortilla chips/guacamole
7. mini-quiche
8. scallops wrapped in bacon
9. punch or smoothies (non-alcoholic for the preggie mom)

I'm not sure you'll get around some cooking, but we did one around this time last year. There were about 50 people so there was TONS of food. We (my 6 friends and I) made the following by splitting it up:

- macerated berries topped with shortcake biscuits in teacups
- endive lettuce cups with goat cheese, dried sour cherry, walnut, and a squeeze of orange
- mini quiche
- veggies and homeemade Green Goddess dressing (blanched asparagus, marinated mushrooms, carrots, multi-colored bell pepper spears, radish halves, and sugar snap peas)
- chicken salad tea sandwiches
- open faced cucumber and cream cheese with dill tea sandwiches
- tiny new red potatoes, hollowed out a bit in the center, and fill with a bit of sour cream and topped with chopped chives (serve cold)
- sweet pea mint soup (very little cooking and serve cold) served in brandy glasses
- cold poached salmon with a couple sauces on the side (a mustard and a dill sauce)
- bought a big coconut cake
- served ice teas, champagne, and sparkling fruit juice

Thank you for the suggestions! I know we can't avoid cooking- but I plan to do it ahead of time and want to avoid tons of reheating on the day. So thank you for ideas that are served cold!
