Staying at my MIL's because of the power outage this weekend. My FIL does nothing but watch Fox News all day. Last night at dinner he starts to go off.... Obama is a muslim, he wants to create Sharia Law, women won't be able to work or go to school and you'll be in a burqua, he wasn't born here, he is from Somalia, and he is going to bow down to Egypt's new President... Michelle Obama "Washes his prayer rug for him"... Gayness "should not be allowed". !!! SIL chimes in, "I work hard and I don't want to give my money to people who sit around on their ass all day".... Like the healthcare law is nothing but welfare. I can't cross my FIL so I just kept stuffing food in my mouth to keep from reacting.
Look, I can understand that people disagree about politics, but what the hell is happening with the crazy anger today? I mean foaming-at-the-mouth from people who are otherwise seemingly nice, normal, reasonable people? |
I don't understand it either. But Fox News seems to know how to whip up a frenzy. |
My neighbors are the same way -- perfectly lovely people until anything political comes up. Then they turn into lunatics spouting absolute garbage. I just smile and say "Well, we'll have to agree to disagree about that." Best was when she tried to convince me Sarah Palin was smarter than Obama. I couldn't help but laugh at that. |
So if they are so scary and nuts, find somewhere else to stay.

11:06 true republican. |
yeah, because the left was perfectly sane and reasonable about Bush. ![]() |
Sorry but that comparison is not even close. Like it or not, Obama is capable of doing the job, whether tou think it is done well or poorly. Palin could not accurately describe the job she was applying for, and the ultimate judgment comes from the republicans themselves who admit shecwas the party's WTF moment. |
No. Some people admittedly were very angry and over the top about Bush. But I don't recall this same degree of vitriol. People are talking about "armed resistance" for goodness sakes. Over freaking universal healthcare, really???? We invaded two countries on a fabrication and NOW we are talking about "armed resistance"? It's just nuts. |
Who said anything about Palin? The PP referred to Bush. I'm as lefty liberal as they come, and I'm continually distraught by the vitriol directed at Obama, but make no mistake - the left laid the groundwork with their treatment of Bush. I'm not talking about disagreement with his policies, I'm talking about the unwarranted personal attacks on his intelligence, work ethic, family, etc. It's all part and parcel of the same problem. When you claim you're as pure as the driven snow - it's the other guiys who are nuts - you appear as unreasonable as they do. |
OH please. People hate Obama like nothing ever before him. That stuff about his birth certificate and religion are just Fox fuel fodder. |
I remember that Bill Clinton was hated. But I seriously wonder: If Bill Clinton had done these things, i.e. AZ immigration, healthcare - would people be AS furious? |
I am right wing nut and the attacks on Obama are racist. |
Bill Clinton was far more hated than Obama. In the days before 9/11 taught America that seriously bad things could happen to us on our own soil, the Republicans thought nothing of wasting years and millions in order to make travesty of the constitutional impeachment process because they hated Clinton (and his spouse) so much. |
the attacks on Bush were relentless. Please, step back just a bit and get some perspective. comedians calling him retarded. actors calling him a fall-down drunk. broadway shows talking about what an idiot he was. the hatred was over the top.
this is bad, but no different than what Bush went through. we are a partisan country. hell, I remember in high school my english teacher going off on how horrible Reagan was .... |
Oh please, there is a huge difference between making fun of someone's race and making fun of someone's partying past or comedic ability to use words that do not exist. |
