Overcrowding in MOCO schools?

Anonymous
I just eavesdropped on a 10th grade science teacher complaining there are 46 kids in her class!!!
Is this the norm?

That has to be 2 classes of kids with a combined total of 46. I can't imagine a classroom holding 46 students at one time. Our nearby elementary school has ~150 kindergarten students (10 classes of just kindergarten)!

What school, 21:27?

Wow. 15 kids per class -- that is a great class size.
Wyngate was anticipating 5 K classes of up to 25 kids and Bethesda Elementary has 27 kids in at least on K class.

she described it as 5 rows of 10 desks....with almost no room to walk

Is that in MoCo, because my understanding is that 150 kindergarten students would only be 6 classes in MoCo, so if you're really getting that ratio I'd be curious what school it is.

Could be a Title I school.

Actually it's 9 classes of kindergarten, not 10

Still, MUCH better than the class sizes on the west side of the county!

Regarding the science class -
That has to be a safety violation.

God forbid there is an emergency - how can all of those children get out if there is almost no room to walk?

If I was a parent / teacher / child in this school, I would contact the fire dept for an inspection as this is not a safe environment.

I don't know about MOCO, but we hired a teacher at our school in Fairfax Co, who said there were 40+ students in her senior English class last year in PG County. I can't even imagine. Classes of 28-30 are hard enough to teach!
