1. why do they have to ask nicely?
2. it wasn't his to begin with, so why should they ask, at all, nicely or not?

They weren’t, really. Media outlets filed the motions, Trump never appeared in the case. Republicans got on board with calling for its release because they knew the court wasn’t going to release the unredacted version so they were setting up the narrative that they have nothing to hide and the fact that the DOJ wants to hide the info means it’s corrupt.

Also, it probably is killing Trump not to know who is spilling to DOJ, so he can’t help himself.
