This morning we were trying to go somewhere, though we ended up turning around and coming home because of the street closures due to downed trees. However we saw a ridiculous incident while we were out.
A River and Western we saw a van hit the side of a white truck. The van seemed to have failed to stop at the stoplight where the lights weren't working. The truck was already in the intersection and the van just plowed into it. To be fair, there wasn't obvious damage from what we could see. However the van driver, after hopping out and only looking at his own car for damage, jumped back in and sped away. The other truck had four hispanic men who had pulled out of the intersection and were getting out to survey their truck for damage. My husband and I followed him and although he seemed to be going 50 in a 25 to get away, we managed to write down his license plate before he sped out of sight. We went back to the intersection, hoping the truck was still there, but they had left. Anyway we are trying to decide if we should report it. There wasn't necessarily damage that we could see on either vehicle and the men didnt stay to report it, but on the other hand it's clearly f'ed up that the driver at fault only looked at his own vehicle and then sped away. I guess we could call the nonemergency line and report it, just in case the men reported it and would benefit from having the license plate reported. I don't know if they will be otherwise swamped...would you report it? |
| Yes. |
| Yes! |
| Yes. |
Are you willing to go to court and testify? |
| YES. You will not be identified because they will call the driver and tell him there are witnesses (plural) and they will look at his car and the van and make sure there was contact. He/she will likle say some thing like, "I did not realize I hit the car".... |
| Yes! Someone hit my husband's car & took off last week. It was a gigantic pain but thankfully the area had local store cameras that caught it on tape for the police to get the license plate number. It would have been great to have a witness just supply that number to the police. |
| Of course! |
| We are trying to figure out if River and Western is technically moco or DC. And I can't figure out what number to call in DC to report it. Does anyone know? |
| just call 911. they'll tell you transfer you if they can't take action. |
|
No!
The other guys were not there. Those are the ones you should e give your info to |

Everybody left because they were all undocumented aliens or whatever the PC term is now.
So while I do think you're being helpful, I'd predict nothing will come of your call for the "injured party" -- won't follow up even if the police contact them. The less contact with law enforcement, the better if you catch my meaning. |
Right, four hispanic men are obviously undocumented
I am hispanic, for the record, and no, I am not an undocumented alien. Your racism is showing. |
|
My life experience is showing.

The OP said the The other truck had four hispanic men who had pulled out of the intersection and were getting out to survey their truck for damage. She didn't say they "left". It sounds like they were trying to get out of the way so they wouldn't hold up traffic, as their car was still drivable. Good for them! Nothing I hate more than people who clog up the streets for a fender bender! |
