Gestational Diabetes question?

I took the first glucose test and tested high--169, with normal being 130. But after the 3 hour test, I tested normal. My OB said--not to worry, keep doing what I'm doing. My specialist who did the ultrasound a day before my first glucose test said the baby was big, particularly the head, and that I shouldn't be surprised if I tested positive for GD. She recommended I don't gain more than 1/4 pound a week for the next 12 weeks, and that I follow a lower carb/higher protein diet, or a GD diet.

So since I didn't officially test positive for G.D. I did not have the chance to meet with the nutritionist at the OB's. I was wondering if someone can tell me good websites to find diet plans to follow that are for GD.

I am going with the specialist's recommendation because I am sure I have already gained way too much weight (I was packing on an extra 20+ pounds from my first pregnancy before this one), and I really don't want to take any chances.

TIA for any information!

Ultrasounds can be off so don't worry too much about measuring big. The first GD test is not as reliable. I failed my first but I also didn't know that eating a high carb breakfast such as cereal and hurrying to the appointment...pretty fast walking/wogging from the parking lot and up the stairs would affect blood sugar. I passed all my three hour tests also.

Be careful about going too high protein and low carb since an extreme diet can have other affects. Stay away from Atkins type stuff. Maybe just cut out refined carbs with a high glycemic index such as white bread, pasta, rice and sugar. You can stay more moderate and just add veggies as snacks, moderate amount of whole grains, skim milk, lots of water, and a reasonable amount of protein. I found some good recipes on the south beach diet sites but again don't follow the diet. You can google glycemic index foods and find some sites that tell you what is really high and low.

i am in the same boat as you, i failed the 1hr test with a 169 but RN just called to say i passed the 3hr test (i'm shocked b/c i was a GD for my first pregnancy-diet controlled but had to test my sugar 6x/day and avoid almost all sugar and "white carbs".)..i go to OB today and RN said he'll review with me what diet suggestions he has, but truth is i've been eating as if i'm a GD for last 13 weeks b/c i was so convinced i'd have it again...i bet they'll tell me like you, that i'm in that category of sugar sensitivity while pregnant and to try to have a very healthy kinda diabetic diet...but we should both rejoice that we dont have to do finger sticks 6x/day!!! as for the diet, i have kasha go lean cereal and fruit every day for breakfast with a cup of tea, a fruit snack, some nuts, then a huge salad with meat and cheese for lunch, sometimes with reduced fat wheat thins or a frew pretzels, for dinner its major meat, cheese, veggies!!! and each day for dessert i let myself have a cup of normal hot chocolate and a sugar free chocolate (russells toffee is yummy) these are all things my GD nurse approved for me with last pregnancy so i'm just following them, you can still ask your OB to give you a sample GD diet or probably google GD diet for some good ideas, unlimited veggies, low sugar yogurts, tea's, nuts, those are what i fell back on, and of course, the day after i delivered my son i made my hubby get me a burger and fries!!! good luck to you!
